#143 - BRIAN MALONE - What are yoga studios for now?

Brian Malone is a Dublin-based yoga teacher, teacher trainer and Head of Yoga across Yogahub’s ten locations, giving him an unusual perspective on how the role of the yoga teacher, and the yoga studio itself, is changing.

We talk about what actually makes a good teacher, the shift from yoga as education towards yoga as experience and service, and why community may be one of the most important things a studio can offer in an increasingly digital world.

We also get into the commercial realities of running yoga spaces, making room for deeper and more niche practices, and Brian’s other great area of interest: breathwork, including what we can confidently say it does and where some of the claims become slightly less convincing.

A grounded conversation about teaching, breathing, community and what yoga is actually there to do. @brianbmalone

  • “A good yoga teacher isn’t only delivering information. They’re creating an experience people want to return to.”

  • “A yoga studio can’t just be a timetable of classes. Something has to hold the community together.”
